Cycle experience 2021

Covid is affecting touring cycling all over the world, even my plans. Two years ago my plan was to cycle to Spain. Last year it changes to stay in Sweden. For this year the plan was the same, until april. There I realized that this summer is nota good time to cycle to Spain. But Denmark could open up in June. New plan. Denmark 12 days.

Twelve day is ot enough. Last year was a partly failure when I decided to ship a part in Jämtland. Now I see an opportunity to go back to Wilderness road. After Denmark one week at home before drivning to Östersund to cycle in Swedish mountain.

I will use Instagram to report daily these two events.

Winter cycling

For a good reason I can’t remember now I decided to go for a short tour in Sörmland over Eastern. From Maundy Thursday afternoon to Easter day. One thing I enjoy about touring on my bike is the preparations. Fixing equipment, planning the route and get food etc. After some thinking and planning I had a pretty good idea how to cycling. Thanks to google Maps some challenges can be meet. I left 3 pm after a some work had to be done. My plan was to cycle to Björnlunda first day, about 63 km. Bot I did not make it. Had about 7 km left. https://www.facebook.com/1261144106/videos/10225256499940478/

It was a cold night. I continued on small gravel roads and asphalt to Nyköpipng where I indulge myself with a Whopper meal at Burger King before I continued to my planned stopover outside Bettna. https://www.facebook.com/1261144106/videos/10225262815458362/

Second night was even colder then the first night. I met my sister at Lida gård for lunch before the final stage back to Eskilstuna. https://www.facebook.com/johannes.mattisson/videos/10225270047519159

It was winter cycling at low temperatures but no snow. A total of 220 km 48 hours. These pictures covers it pretty well.

Sometimes things does not go as planned

I am back home. Actually I have been home two weeks. I left Tbilisi on 2 of July on my Caucasus cycle experience. All went fine. I Came to Batumi after six days. Some was hard on bad roads. From Batumi I contined towards Jereven in Armenia. I came to Ninosminda, last town before the border. I even entered Armenia. Suddenly I felt a hard pain in my chest. Panic, double panic. Was it a stroke, was it pnemonia. Since I have both diabetes and a pacemaker I am very cautious and scared when it comes to pain in my chest. That night, still pain, I decided to ship this cycling experience and go back home as fast as I can. I cycled to M3, took a taxi 49 km to Vanadzor. Day after I took a bus to Tbilisi. There I stayad at Envoy hostel . Tow days lter I flew back to Stockholm.

Finally home I went straight to my doctor for some examinations. It was nothing wrong with my heart or lung. Probably a muscle inflammation she said.

This is probably the end of cycle experiences. I can’t cycle around thge world with a fear of getting sick all the time.

Cycle Experience 2019

Where to go next. Now When 2017 and 2018 has been published here. At least in Swedish, I have been thinking about 2019. It is a good chance it will be Caucasus. Never been cycling in Asia and that part of the world is facinating me. Here is a postable itinerary.

Update

All you that follow my adventures on bike probably remember that last years cycle experience ended in Nashville.  I haven’t been writing anything about that failure.  It was, my plan was to cycle to New Orleans biut I gave up in Nashville.  problems with myself, my bike, my equipment and extreme weather forecasts made my change my plans.

But, I will be back,as the Terminator.  Mid June I am back in Nashville to complete my 1017 cycle experience.  Good thing with this is that I will have time for some detours. Passing Selma, Al, to say one thing.

From Nashville follow Natches trail to Tupelo, from there to Selma.  Continue southweet passing De Soto National park.

Miniadventure runt Hjälmaren

Gallery

Tickets

I don’t trust Mr Trump. I think he is bad for US.  Enough about that now.

I bought my flight tickets this week.  SEK 7000 .  When I was looking into this in early January the price was 4200.  Huge increase.

Before, my only critera for buying tickts was it has to be cheap.  Usually that means long waits on airport like Heathrow in UK, Frankurt in Germany.  This time I became lazy or convenient.  I got a direct flights with SAS, both to Chicago and home from New Orleans.  Age is ticking in!

What else, I am leaving on 21 June and be back to Europe on 28th of July.  Yes, I do have a lot of vaccination days.  As most Swedish white collar workers I have 30 days off,  Except bank holidays, plus compensation for ovetime. It is good life in Sweden.

I am a memeber of Warmshowers. www.warmshoweer.org: I hope to connect to some Warmshowers on this trip.  I really love to host cyclist when I can in Eskilstuna.  ANyone passing by, don’t hesitate to contact me.  I am a good host and guide.

Next thing to do is to take car of my bike.  Need to replace some parts.  I have already taken care of my roadbike. First ride outside was last Sunday.
